Privacy policy

Last updated 5 October 2026

Sun alarm works on your phone, without an account, ads or tracking. This policy explains plainly what the app and this website do with information about you, and the choices you have.

In short

  • No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
  • The app sends nothing about you to its publisher.
  • Your alarms, notes and settings stay on your phone.
  • If you allow it, the weather uses your approximate location, sent to Open-Meteo to get the forecast.
  • If you switch on the morning news, the app downloads it from Cloudflare, like visiting a website.

Who is responsible

The data controller, within the meaning of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is the publisher of Sun alarm, a private individual described in the legal notice. You can reach them at tato.devteam@gmail.com.

What stays on your phone

The app keeps everything it needs in its own private storage on your phone:

  • your alarms, important notes, sounds and other settings;
  • the last weather forecast, with the place it is for, so the weather shows even offline;
  • the news and its recordings, once downloaded, if you switched the morning news on;
  • the country of your mobile network, read from the phone to choose Celsius or Fahrenheit and km/h or mph.

None of this is sent to the publisher. It is deleted when you clear the app's data or uninstall it.

If backup is switched on in your phone's settings, Android may copy the app's data to your Google account, under Google's own terms. You can switch this off in your phone's settings.

What leaves your phone, and why

The weather (optional)

If you allow location, the app reads your phone's approximate location when it fetches the weather. It sends those coordinates to Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com) to get the forecast: when you dismiss an alarm and when you open the app, and about every hour in the background while an alarm is on and the phone is online, for the place of your last forecast. Open-Meteo receives your phone's IP address and these coordinates; its terms are at open-meteo.com/en/terms.

To show the name of your town, the app asks your phone's own geocoding service for the place at those coordinates. On most Android phones, this service is provided by Google, under Google's privacy policy.

This rests on your consent, given through Android's location permission. The app works without it, and you can withdraw it at any time in your phone's settings.

The morning news (optional, off until you switch it on)

When the morning news is on, the app downloads the news files for the categories you chose from the newsroom's website, hosted on Cloudflare Pages (sunalarm-news-cdn.pages.dev): about every hour the phone is online while an alarm is on, and as the sun rises. As with any website, Cloudflare receives your phone's IP address and the files requested, which show which categories you follow. No account, name or identifier is sent. This rests on the publisher's legitimate interest in providing a feature you chose to switch on.

Nothing else

The app has no crash reporting, analytics, advertising identifier or social network code. It does not read your contacts, files, camera or microphone.

This website

This website sets no cookies and has no analytics, trackers, embedded videos or third-party fonts: everything it shows comes from this site. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses and technical request data to deliver the site and protect it from attacks, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy. The publisher does not use these data.

If you write to tato.devteam@gmail.com, your message and address are used only to answer you, or to give you access to the beta if you ask for it. They are kept no longer than needed for that, and at most one year after your last message. This rests on steps taken at your request.

Who receives data

Open-Meteo, Cloudflare and, for place names and backups, Google, each as independent providers of their own services, under their own policies. Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States; its privacy policy explains how it protects data transferred outside the European Union. The publisher sells nothing, and shares nothing with anyone else.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and erase data about you, to restrict or object to its use, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Since the app keeps your data on your phone, you can exercise most of these rights yourself: change or delete your settings and notes, revoke the location permission, clear the app's data, or uninstall it. For anything else, write to tato.devteam@gmail.com.

If you think your rights are not respected, you can complain to the French data protection authority, the CNIL, or to the authority of the EU country where you live.

Children

Sun alarm is not aimed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the app or this website starts handling data differently, this page will be updated first, with a new date at the top, and important changes will be mentioned in the app's release notes.
